I have a better understanding of why I do what I do, which guides me more accurately toward what I should be doing.
One of my biggest pain points was not feeling motivated in what I was doing and not understanding why. I make wedding videos, which used to excite me a lot, but it’s become less and less fulfilling as time goes on. I actually felt guilty for feeling this way, like maybe I was spoiled and not appreciating the opportunity enough. This was negatively affecting my business because I was beginning to not pursue these clients or nurture relationships in the industry as well as I had before.
In the Intensive class, when you took me through the questionnaire that had me explore what aspects of my work excite me or bring the most satisfaction, it was like identifying the key to the lock. When I looked into my past to see what events introduced me to these feelings or the desire for them, it was like finding the place where the key was made. Focusing on that helped me to then identify where that key is today and how I had been looking in the wrong place. I thought wedding videos were the key, but it’s not. The key for me is helping people tell their stories.
I have a better understanding of why I do what I do, which guides me more accurately toward what I should be doing. I’ve decided I need to embrace the fact that while there is a place for wedding videos in my business, I’m more suited to branch out to other markets where people have a story to share, which they have difficulty telling. This felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. I appreciate the grace and expertise that Lynn has in drawing these revelations out of her students.
